While several events contributed to the downfall of the Network, one of the major trigger points that can be identified is the partial destruction of the archeotech device known as the Prime Executive by Cart. Cart's hammer toss ended not just the latest Network era, but the long chain of Networks, championships, and season resets which historians are only just managing to determine the full extent of.
The Network would have doubtless collapsed in the infamous Season 36 with or without Cart's destructive act, but the application of a hammer to the delicate circuitry meant that what came next was demonstrably different and led by the people of Bastion, rather than yet another scheme from the calculations of the Prime Executive.
