Example Characters

These are characters put together by the GMs to give you an idea of the sort of thing that might be possible.

Collapse - Monster Bounty Hunter

Skills:

  • Basic Fighting
  • Basic Monsterology
  • Basic Exploration
  • Wasteland Survival
  • Monster Trapping

Quirks:

  • (+) Thingamabob (resembles a glowing blue yo-yo)
  • (+) It's Dangerous To Go Alone (Monster-Durable Armour that can withstand heavy impacts)
  • (+) Wasteland Connections (good friends with a community of fire-eating Wastelanders near the Volcanoes)
  • (-) Vice (Gambling)
  • (-) Debt Owed (From the Gambling Vice, owes a large debt to the Junior Executive of the Network Finance Branch)

Private Bio:
Collapse is a pretty competent Monster Hunter who prefers to work outside of the Nimrods and Salt & Wound. This is mostly to support their gambling habit and to pay back the debts they've racked up with her considerably bad luck at the Bookies.

Public Bio:
Collapse, Monster Hunter for hire - ain't no Monster too big I can't take it down. My rates are reasonable.

Monster: Wrecks, a fast and smart sniffer Monster (Got it from a guy in a bar, GMs have fun!)

Shell – Purveyor of Fan Media

Skills

  • Basic Business
  • Basic Creativity
  • Freeform Craft: Comic drawing
  • Writing
  • Basic Persuasion

Quirks:

  • (+) Gossip Network (The Arena Stands.)
  • (+) Inside Scoop (Shell is friends with a guard in the Arena who gives her the odd titbits of information regarding competitors to watch out for.)
  • (+) 1% (The Monster comic business is lucrative to say the least.)
  • (+) SUPERFANS (Fans of a Fan? You bet! Shell has a large and enthusiastic reader base who are just dying to find out what happens in the next volume of Confessions of Rogue Monster Hunter.)
  • (-) Elephants Never Forget (Okay, how was she to know that after accidentally poking Experiment X in one of its eyes with a stick of charcoal, the damn thing would harbour a grudge?)
  • (-) Monster Fodder (Artists ought to keep a distance from their subjects. That’s Shell’s excuse, at any rate. Truth be told, the last time she got too close, she nearly lost an arm to an opportunistic sentient ball of slime.)
  • (-) Not a Monster Owner (Given most Monsters’ tendency to mistake her for tomorrow’s lunch, Shell has refrained from bringing one home.)

Private Bio:

Shell is the creative mind behind assorted bestselling Monster-based comic books. She enjoys a significant amount of fame for her distinctive art style, intricate plotlines, and notorious penchant for cliffhangers. Basically, she knows her market and plays to it accordingly. This year, as ever, she will be selling her work by the Arena – in addition to keeping on the lookout for charismatic competitors to draw.

Of course, despite writing about Monsters and their Trainers extensively, she has, embarrassingly, rarely been able to look at the former up close. This is mostly because they always try to eat her.

Public Bio:

Acclaimed comic book artist and Fan extraordinaire, Shell, is rumoured to be making an appearance at this year's Championship!

Jolt - Action Archaeologist

Skills:

  • Basic Archaeotech
  • Archaeology
  • Basic Exploration
  • Wasteland Survival
  • Monsterology

Quirks:

  • (+) Tough (I've fallen down more holes than you've had hot dinners. The secret is learning to bounce at the bottom)
  • (+) Wasteland Connections (You've got to know who to go to so you can trade for decent food. I know a few caravan-runners who I can reliably pick up supplies from for a good price)
  • (+) 1% (so far I've not been able to use a lot of the stuff I bring back, but I've been able to sell it)
  • (-) Elephants Never Forget (Doomigator is always staring at me like it wants to eat me. I don't even know what I did!)
  • (-) Monster Fodder (…maybe I just look tasty?)

Private Bio:

Jolt regularly ventures into the Wastelands, to abandoned ruins, unexplored cave networks, or anywhere else that might find some Archaeotech that they can trade when they get back to the Arena. Most of the expeditions fund themselves but they're really hoping for a big haul one day - something that they can strap to the back of Earthshaker and finally break into the big time!

Public Bio:

“If you want something that glows, sparks, freezes, or explodes, come to me and I'll try to get it for you. Good rates on whatever I can drag in from the wastes.” -Jolt, Wasteland expedition leader

Monster:

Earthshaker, a large but slow reptilian monstrosity that grew way too fast and frankly I'm not entirely sure how to control.
