PvP

Player versus Player action (or PvP) is a central pillar of Ultimate Monster Battle Arena by virtue of players being pitted against each other in the Monster Fights in The Arena. PvP may also occur outside the Arena though we are not expecting it to be as prevalent. We expect almost all players will be involved in PvP actions of some sort or another during the course of the game.

When we talk about PvP we're not just talking about Monster vs Monster battles or straight up fights, we're also talking about sabotage, theft, pulling tricks, campaigns of politics, smearing, outbidding, playing a game of poker, and even straight up lying - where one player is trying to get one over on another, it's PvP.

While PvP is nothing new to most roleplayers, since it features more heavily in Ultimate Monster Battle Arena than other games we wish to make clear our policy on ensuring PvP is resolved fairly and enjoyably.

PvP Action Resolution

The GM Team has a set of rules for resolving PvP actions. These rules have been discussed at length by the GM Team in order to ensure that our system for resolving PvP actions both in the Arena Fights and in actions taken outside the Arena are resolved fairly. While we cannot divulge the full nature of our system for resolving PvP, we can assure all players that we take into account all plans, assets and Skills that characters in conflict have to offer in equal measure.

While we will be making every step to ensure that PvP is resolved correctly, we may make mistakes. We're only human! If you believe that a PvP action has resolved unfairly, this is something you should bring to the attention of the GM Team (email gm@umba.chaosdeathfish.com). We will review what happened and make steps as we believe appropriately. If the GM Team tells you that we believe everything has resolved as it should, we ask that you take our word on that.

Responding to PvP in Good Faith

By the essential nature of PvP action, there will usually be a “winner” and a “loser” - that's just how things go! We ask that though players may portray characters as sanctimoniously or bitterly as they want while in character (and do in fact encourage it!), all players are gracious about the victories and defeats of their characters in equal measure when out of character.

While winning PvP usually reaps rewards, loss of PvP will also provide its own opportunities - the GM Team will be working to ensure that losing non-lethally is as interesting as winning (and in the case of lethal PvP, that endings are at least fun to read).

PvP will often result in damages to one or both sides - whether physical injuries or loss or damage to possessions. It is entirely possible that PvP will result in loss of physical items that belong to your character, including loss of Monsters. Such losses should be taken graciously out of character. Lethal PvP may also occur which may result in character death - similarly we ask this is taken graciously, but ask that players are respectful that not all players will respond to character death the same way.

Remember, it is the character that lost, not the player. The GM Team will be unimpressed with players who forget this.
