Here we will be defining key terms that you may hear across the game.
(Ark-ee-oh-tek)
Ancient technology dug up from the ruins of the world before. Operates in mysterious and sometimes useful ways.
(Ky-at)
Currency used outside of the Arena. Represented in session with coins provided by the game. See also Money.
An unflattering term originally used as a derogative for Monster Gladiators.
See The Network.
(Ree-el)
Currency used in the Ultimate Monster Battle Arena circle. Sometimes called “Arena Currency”. Represented in session with coins provided by the game. See also Money.
Season 36 of Ultimate Monster Battle Arena's current iteration - the current Season and the one that the game takes place in.
See also Introduction to Roleplaying.
A term for roleplaying romantic relationships between Characters.
Events and people in the World of Ultimate Monster Battle Arena. For example, the sessions of Ultimate Monster Battle Arena occur IC in a secure Vault.
Us! The team of people who write, run and maintain the game for your playing pleasure. The first place to turn if you have a question.
Us again! Other competitors, Trainers, or Stakeholders who may be present at Conferences but will be played by a GM. NPCs will usually vary session-to-session, and GMs will often play multiple NPCs during a game session.
Events and circumstances in the real world. For example, Ultimate Monster Battle Arena sessions take place OOC at St Hilda's College every other Tuesday in term.
You! The characters that Ultimate Monster Battle Arena players create and represent in the fictional world. You will usually play the same PC every session through the course of the game, though you may switch or retire a character if you get bored or your character dies.
Terms to describe the nature of the fight your characters face, 'Player vs Environment' (i.e. the world is out to kill you) or 'Player vs Player' (i.e. everyone else is out to kill you). Ultimate Monster Battle Arena is designed as both a PvP and PvE game - we expect PvP to mostly occur in the setting of the Arena, and PvE to occur outside it. See our policy on PvP for more details.
Shorthand for “Physical Representation” - describing props that represent something in the game, regardless of how closely they appear. For instance, the “phys-rep” for money is Riel coins provided by the team; the “phys-rep” for a laser gun you have may be the provided card, or a prop that the owning player has decided to bring (there is no requirement to bring phys-reps for items that you have!)
